ICE Agent Fatally Shoots U.S. Citizen During Minneapolis Immigration Enforcement, Mayor Calls It “Reckless”

MINNEAPOLIS — A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent fatally shot a 37-year-old woman, a U.S. citizen, during an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis on Wednesday, prompting sharp criticism from city officials and raising serious questions about federal law enforcement conduct.

Live video circulating online shows a heavy presence of federal and local law enforcement officers, yellow police tape, and vehicles involved in a crash at the scene. U.S. Customs and Border Protection Cmdr. Gregory Bovino was among the federal officials present.

Footage appears to show an agent positioned near the front of a vehicle drawing his firearm and firing three shots. Moments later, the vehicle crashes into a parked car and strikes a light pole.

Mayor Rejects DHS Self-Defense Narrative

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey strongly disputed the Department of Homeland Security’s initial characterization of the incident during a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

“They are already trying to spin this as an action of self defense,” Frey said, referring to ICE. “Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly that is b———.”

Frey emphasized that local authorities’ immediate priorities after the shooting were to provide medical assistance to the victim and remove ICE agents from the scene.

“The first priority was getting the victim to the hospital,” Frey said. “The second was getting ICE off the scene because they were making a difficult situation more problematic.”

Allegations of Reckless Use of Force

The mayor condemned the federal operation, accusing ICE of escalating tensions and undermining public safety.

“What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust. They are ripping families apart, sowing chaos in the streets and, in this case, quite literally killing people,” Frey said.
“This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying — getting killed.”

The incident has intensified scrutiny of federal immigration enforcement tactics in major U.S. cities and renewed concerns over coordination between local law enforcement and federal agencies.

Investigation and Public Reaction

Details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting, the justification for the use of force, and the agent’s actions remain under investigation. No additional information has been released about whether the agent involved has been placed on leave or whether federal prosecutors are reviewing the case.

The fatal shooting of a U.S. citizen during an immigration enforcement action has sparked outrage online, with community members and civil rights advocates calling for transparency, accountability, and an independent investigation.
